Chapeau !

This one word expression Chapeau ! (shapoe) means “Well done!” A chapeau is a hat, so it’s like our expression “Hats off to you!” or “I tip my hat to you!” I tip my hat to Brenda Waites Bolling, whose fine quality hats are available at her eponymous boutique at the Plaza Hotel on Fifth Avenue. Brenda is as charming as her signature hat, the English Jockey, which is available in a myriad of colors and trims, including heraldic crests and peacock feathers. She helped me match hats to the size of my head, face shape, color and style preferences. I particularly loved a flapper-style cloche in red or green felt that collapsed flat for ease of packing. In additional to wearable hats for everyday, Brenda also has bridal headwear, creations suitable for Ascot, and fantasies for costume parties. She showed me a hat for the upcoming Venetian ball decked out with ostrich plumes around the brim and blackbirds. It certainly won’t go unnoticed! She can customize any of her basic designs to meet a client’s specific requests.
