C’est toujours la même chanson

French singer Patrick Fiori was born on September 23, 1969. He was born in Marseille as Patrick Jean-Francois Chouchayan. He began performing at age 12 and was France’s entrant to the Eurovision competition in 1993 when he was only 17 with “Mama Corsica.” One year later, he recorded the beautiful song “Belle” with Daniel Lavoie and Garou as part of the cast of the enormously successful musical Notre Dame de Paris, based on the classic by Victor Hugo.  This was when I first heard him sing. His 2007 single “4 Mots sur un piano” went to number one in France. I like to use his tribute to his hometown “Marseille” in my French class.

Today’s expression, c’est toujours la même chanson (seh toojoor lah mem shanson) literally means “it’s always the same song” or the same thing. I’d say that’s true for Patrick Fiori, but in the best of ways – one hit after another.

Best of Patrick Fiori
