Se faire porter pâle

Fashion Week for ready-to-wear for Spring 2012 continued in Paris today. The colors at Chanel were all lighter shades of pale, white, ivory, silver, seafoam, and salmon. In other words, there’s not much to grab the attention of a girl who wore out a book called Ann Likes Red. I must admit the cut of this suit is exquisite, but imagine how lovely it would look in red.

Today’s expression, se faire porter pâle (suh fair portay pal) means “to make oneself wear pale” and is used idiomatically to mean “to call in sick.” Why would one want to wrap oneself in pale colors and then top it off with pale makeup that makes one look under the weather instead of wearing a nice, healthy red? To quote an inspirational book, “Ann likes red. Red, red, red.”

Ann Likes Red! (my personal fashion manifesto)
