Les Chiffres de Fashion Week

1841525_5_4dd0_les-chiffres-de-la-fashion-week-2013_5f94c1e126cda1879b75ea5eb5ea361fIt’s Fashion Week in Paris once again. I loved this illustration from Le Monde that shows Les Chiffres de Fashion Week (lay shefruh duh Fashion Week) or “The Figures of Fashion Week.” These aren’t the model’s figures we’re talking about here, but rather all the facts and figures of the fashion business. I’ve translated the key vocab from the illustration for you so you’ll be front row ready.

  • jours (zjoor) – days
  • maison (mayzohn)– fashion house (in this context)
  • accredités (ak-red-e-tay)– authorized
  • défiles (day-feel-ay)– fashion shows
  • en coulisse (ehn koolease)/ dans les coulisses (dahn lay koolease) – in the wings / backstage
  • mis à dispostion (meeze ah dees-poh-zee-see-ohn) – made available to
  • lors de (lors duh) – during
  • cadeau (kadoe) – gift
  • maquilleurs (mack-e-ur) – make-up artists
  • ont épaulé (ohnt ay-paul-ay) – supported

Now all you need are dark glasses and a haughty look to fit right in.
