Le Style Français

French StyleIt’s not too late for a last minute Christmas gift for the Francophiles in your life. Assouline, the chic French publisher, released a new coffee-table book in time for July 14 – the French national holiday. It’s available in both a French edition, Le Style Français (luh steel frahnseh) and an English edition, French Style.

screen_shot_2013-03-21_at_4_22_48_pmI got one of the French copies signed by the author, Columbia university professor Bérénice Vila Baudry, at the Assouline boutique inside the Plaza hotel in New York on Bastille Day, and I’ve been enjoying browsing through it ever since. The book focuses on style “icons” as diverse as the accordion and soccer great Zinedine Zidane. Each page is highlighted by a capital letter that relates to the topic, a paragraph giving the history of the person, thing, or event as well as a gorgeous color illustration. It’s a book that is as beautiful as it is informative.
